Vocalist/Author/Adoptee ZARA PHILLIPS will be a guest judge at the King of Rock! competition which will be held at the Atlantic City House of Blues on July 15^th. The event will be hosted by legendary rap artist, DMC, and proceeds will benefit THE FELIX ORGANIZATION/Adoptees For Children. The mission of THE FELIX ORGANIZATION Adoptees For Children is to provide opportunities and new experiences that will enrich the lives of children who are growing up without parents.

Darryl “DMC” McDaniels from Run DMC and Sheila Jaffe the Casting Director of “The Sopranos” and “Entourage” are both adoptees who have searched for and found their birth families. As they pursued their journey of discovery they realized how fortunate they are having been raised by a loving family and how things could have gone very differently had they not been adopted. It was within this good fortune of being adopted that Darryl and Sheila decided to start THE FELIX ORGANIZATION/Adoptees For Children in February of 2006: as adoptees “we got taken home - we want to give to those children who didn’t get taken home.”

Phillips is author of “Chasing Away the Shadows: An Adoptee’s Journey to Motherhood. The book takes us along Phillip’s personal journey to motherhood from an adoptee’s point of view. Published by Gateway Press, Chasing Away the Shadows draws on her experience, pain, joy and ultimate reconciliation of her past, present and future. The book will be published in Italy in Fall 2007.

Phillips regularly speaks to and facilitates workshops and events related to adoption issues. Currently she is working on her latest book, which specifically designed to address the questions, fears and concerns of adopted children. The untitled book was inspired by a conversation she had with a youngster at one of her book signings, who was thrilled to speak with someone who shared her same experiences.

Phillips has also released a new CD entitled, When the Rain Stops, which includes 3 songs pertaining to her adoption experience. Phillips began singing professionally over fifteen years ago in the United Kingdom as a backing vocalist on albums, videos and promotional television shows worldwide for Bob Geldof, Matt Bianco, Nick Kamen, Perfect Day and Dire Strait’s John Illselly. She moved on to work primarily on her own music, regularly performing with her own band at London venues.
